Introduction to Paper Clay Porcelain
This introductory course explores how to work with paper clay porcelain, a versatile material known for its strength and flexibility. During the workshop, you will learn essential techniques and create 2–3 porcelain pieces, which can then be decorated using the studio glazes.
A dedicated paper clay firing takes place once per term for those who wish to continue using the material in the studio; advance booking is required. Use and Firing in the Open Access Sessions will be at extra cost to the normal session price.
ABOUT: Scarva FLAX Paper Clay ES600 Porcelain
"Scarva FLAX paper CLAY allows the potter to be more of an artist and less of a technician. • Incredibly strong slabs - even extra thin slabs will fold, bend and drape without tearing. • Extra large or thick forms hold up under their own weight. • Greenware re-wets easily and evenly allowing you to re-work, alter or add new clay at any stage of dryness. It is possible with this clay body to build an armature and allow it to dry as a support sculpture that need not be removed for firing. • Moisture evaporates so evenly from this clay body that it can be force dried with excellent results. • Exaggerated forms hold their shape."
