OPEN ACCESS STUDIO SESSIONS
Open access sessions invite you to bring your own ideas; so they are self-led, with on-hand studio technical support available. You do not need any previous experience to attend, just an open mind and willingness to become part of a socially engaged session. You can ask other attendees, experiment and play, whilst developing good technical skills into personal projects.

Open access is charged at £10 per hour for clay and sculpture work. You can just come for an hour or stay for the full 2.5hrs)

Drawing and painting sessions are charged at £15 per session.
Participants may bring their own tools; however, all personal tools must be removed from the studio at the end of each session.
Each session has a duration of 2.5 hours.
SCULPTURE: Workbenches and stools, a kiln and sink, and tools for clay, plaster, and Jesmonite. Only studio clay and studio decoration glazes are permitted in the studio. These materials are fired to a maximum temperature of 1220°C.
Specific clays or materials —such as paper clay, porcelain, or crank—may be purchased at an additional cost. Higher-temperature firings can be arranged once per term and will incur extra fees.

DRAWING AND PAINTING: Pencils, charcoal, graphite, and a selection of papers for sketching and study. Watercolours and Aquacryl paints with a range of brushes for different techniques.
(Please note that oils and non–water-based paints are not permitted in the studio.)
The studio also holds a small collection of art books and magazines for research and inspiration.
THE KILN
In the sculpture area, there is a ROHDE Ecotop 43 kiln. Its internal dimensions are Ø 400 mm × 340 mm high, with a maximum temperature of 1300 °C.
Please note: The kiln is not available for outside hire.
Workshops: the maximum size of objects that can be fired is 25 cm high and 25 cm wide.
The kiln is approved for clay ceramic firings only. It may not be used for glass, metal, mixed materials, or any non-ceramic items.
This policy is in place to protect the kiln and ensure safe operation for everyone.
